TAKE THE LEAD DOG TRAINING CLUB

Northwood, Stoke-on-Trent

Our classes are held on a Wednesday evening.

Basic Pet Obedience Course - £35.00 - 6.50 pm to 8 pm.

We run a basic pet obedience course of 6 weeks duration, restricted to 9 dogs maximum. The course programme includes teaching you how to train your dog to walk nicely on the lead, to come back when called and to stay when told. We do not believe in "block" training, where there are a lot of dogs on the floor at the same time. Nothing is achieved by this method by owner or dog. We have no more than 3 dogs on the floor at a time, each with an individual Instructor.

You are given homework sheets each week (except the last week) with the exercises you are required to practice for the following week. All exercises are demonstrated by one of our Instructors with their dogs. All exercises are undertaken on lead.

If for any reason, you should miss a class or classes, you will be allowed to make up the lost lessons at the end of the 6 weeks course. On completion of the full six weeks you will be given a Certificate of Completion.

If you wish to book on the Basic Obedience class, please note that we do NOT take telephone or internet bookings. You must come to the Hall on a Wednesday evening in order to complete a registration form and pay your fee, which will secure your place. We do not "save" places.

Intermediate Class - £23.00 per 6 weeks - 8 pm to 9 pm

This is a follow-up class to the Basic Pet Obedience Course., where you will be with other dogs and their owners. In addition to the lessons learned in the previous class,  you will learn how to teach your dog to retrieve,  do a food scent,  various tricks,  recall and stays off  lead, and various other things. Because of the reduced  fee, we do not permit make up classes, should you miss any week.

Advanced Class - £15.00 per 6 weeks - 9 pm to 10 pm

Again, this class is a follow-up to the Intermediate class. However, in order to qualify for this class your dog must have attained a certain standard. Most of the work is done off lead. Here you and your dog will learn what is termed "the immediate down" or "emergency stop". This means that your dog must lie down immediately when told from a distance. This is a very useful exercise should your dog be running either away from you or into danger. You will also do some group exercises, i.e. recall. Again, we do not permit make up classes.

Now please go to the Diary page to see the dates of courses for the year.
